Koh Phangan Itinerary: How to Spend 3, 5, or 7 Days
Koh Phangan is the kind of island where three days feels too short and three weeks still leaves things undiscovered. Whether you are here for a long weekend or a full week, this guide lays out exactly how to spend your time — day by day, with estimated costs and links to everything you need to plan each activity.
Before you arrive, check our getting to Koh Phangan guide for ferry schedules and transport options. And if you are timing your trip around the Full Moon Party, book early — the island fills up fast.
The 3-Day Itinerary: The Highlights
Three days is enough to hit the essentials. You will leave wanting more, but you will leave with a real taste of what makes Koh Phangan special.
Day 1: Beaches, Sunset, and Night Market
Start your first morning at one of the island’s best beaches. If you are staying at Eclipse in Haad Rin, Haad Rin Nok is steps away. For something quieter, rent a motorbike (see our motorbike rental guide) and head to Haad Yao or Haad Salad on the west coast.
In the late afternoon, ride to the 420 Club (formerly 360 Viewpoint) for panoramic sunset views over the island. Grab a drink and watch the sky turn orange.
End the day at Phantip Night Market in Thong Sala, the island’s largest market. A full dinner of pad thai, spring rolls, and fresh fruit will cost you around 100 to 150 THB. Read our complete food guide for more recommendations.
Estimated daily budget: 500-1,200 THB (excluding accommodation)
Day 2: Waterfalls and Jungle
Dedicate day two to Koh Phangan’s jungle interior. Start at Phaeng Waterfall inside Than Sadet National Park (100 THB entry), then hike up to the Domesila Viewpoint for sweeping views of the island. The full loop takes about two hours. Pack swimwear — the pools at the base of the falls are perfect for a cool dip.
If you still have energy, drive across the island to Than Sadet Waterfall on the east coast. This is the royal waterfall where Thai kings left their monograms carved in the rocks. The natural swimming pools here are some of the best on the island. Full details in our waterfalls and viewpoints guide.
In the evening, head to Baan Tai Night Market for dinner with live music, or try one of the island’s famous vegan restaurants like Eat Co or Orion Cafe.
Estimated daily budget: 600-1,500 THB
Day 3: Snorkeling and Full Moon Party (or Nightlife)
Spend the morning snorkeling at Koh Ma, where a natural sandbar connects to a small island at low tide. The coral and fish life here are excellent, and you can snorkel right from the shore for free. Alternatively, join a snorkeling tour (1,500-2,500 THB) that covers multiple spots around the island.
If your visit coincides with the Full Moon Party, tonight is the night. Read our Full Moon Party guide for everything you need to know. If it is not a Full Moon weekend, Koh Phangan still has plenty of nightlife — the Half Moon Festival, Jungle Experience, and several beach bars keep the island lively throughout the month.
Estimated daily budget: 800-3,000 THB (depending on party)
The 5-Day Itinerary: Go Deeper
Five days lets you slow down and explore areas most tourists miss. Follow the three-day itinerary above, then add these two days.
Day 4: Diving at Sail Rock
This is the big one. Book a dive trip to Sail Rock (Hin Bai), the best dive site in the Gulf of Thailand. The trip departs early from Chaloklum Pier and includes two dives, lunch, and equipment. Even if you have never dived before, you can do a Discover Scuba session (around 2,990-3,500 THB) that includes a real open-water dive with an instructor.
For certified divers, the Sail Rock trip costs around 2,500-3,500 THB and features a vertical chimney swim-through and the chance to spot whale sharks between March and June, with another window from September to November. It is a full-day excursion, so plan for a relaxed evening — maybe sunset drinks at Eclipse and an early night.
Estimated daily budget: 3,500-5,000 THB
Day 5: Wellness, Cooking, and Culture
Koh Phangan’s yoga and wellness scene is among the best in Southeast Asia. Start the day with a yoga class in Sri Thanu — drop-in classes are widely available and typically cost 300 to 500 THB.
In the afternoon, take a Thai cooking class (1,200-1,500 THB) where you will visit a local market, select ingredients, and learn to cook classic dishes. It is one of the most rewarding activities on the island and a skill you will take home with you.
Finish at the Sri Thanu Night Market for organic and vegan street food, or ride back to catch the Saturday Walking Street Market in Thong Sala if the timing works.
Estimated daily budget: 1,500-2,500 THB
The 7-Day Itinerary: The Full Experience
A full week on Koh Phangan is the sweet spot. You have time to explore every corner, build a routine, and really settle into island life. Follow the five-day itinerary, then add these two days.
Day 6: Bottle Beach and Khao Ra
Today is for adventure. Start early and hike to the summit of Khao Ra, the island’s highest peak at 627 meters. The trail takes two to three hours each way through dense jungle and rewards you with views above the tree canopy. Full details and what to bring in our waterfalls and viewpoints guide.
Alternatively, if you prefer beaches over peaks, take a longtail boat from Chaloklum to Bottle Beach — one of the most secluded and beautiful beaches on the island. Spend the day swimming, snorkeling, and eating fresh seafood from the beachfront restaurants.
In the evening, explore the west coast. Hing Kong has upscale restaurants like Baobab and L’Alcove (see our food guide), or head south to Fisherman’s in Ban Tai for sunset seafood on the water.
Estimated daily budget: 800-2,500 THB
Day 7: Island Lap and Farewell
Your last day is for filling in the gaps. Rent a motorbike and do a lap of the island, stopping at any beaches or viewpoints you missed. The full loop takes two to three hours of driving, plus stops — and you will want to stop constantly.
Recommended stops for your final day:
- Thong Nai Pan — twin bays on the east coast with stunning scenery
- Chaloklum — a fishing village with authentic local restaurants
- Haad Khom — a hidden cove with excellent snorkeling
- Mae Haad — another sandbar beach connecting to a small island
End your trip with a final sunset, a cold drink at the Eclipse bar, and one last plate of pad thai from the night market.
Estimated daily budget: 600-1,500 THB

Tips for Planning Around the Full Moon Party
The Full Moon Party happens once a month on Haad Rin beach, and it shapes the rhythm of the entire island. Here is how to work it into your itinerary:
- Book accommodation early. The island fills up in the days surrounding Full Moon. Eclipse Hostel is just 100 meters from Haad Rin beach — book your room as soon as you have dates.
- Arrive 2-3 days before. This gives you time to settle in, explore, and meet people before the big night.
- Plan active days before the party. Do your diving, hiking, and early starts in the first half of your trip. The day after Full Moon is for recovery.
- Stay a day or two after. The island is noticeably quieter after the party, which is perfect for beaches and relaxation.
If the Full Moon does not align with your travel dates, do not worry. Koh Phangan has plenty happening every week — read our nightlife guide for the full calendar.
